Ancient Judean coins

First coins minted in ancient Judea started in the 4th century BC - these first coins imitated the most common coins then in circulation - the Athenian owls and the Persian siglos. The coins were inscribed in paleohebrew "YHD" (Yehud).

Later on, the Judean coins took a more standard Greek appearance, with some coins showing a bilingual (Greek and Hebrew) inscriptions.

The coins were minted by the Jewish Kings, and later under Roman domination. Many coins were also minted during the anti-Roman rebellions - all these coins are very rich in history and are extremely popular with the collectors.
