Remarkable and EXCEEDINGLY rare silver Bukharhudat drachm in the name of the Ikshid ruler of Samarqand Turghar, ca.738-750 AD

Crowned bust of ruler right, circle above crown. In front of the face Sogdian legend - "Turghar", behind the head distorted pehlevi legend / In the center of the coin altar with a head of Ahura Mazda. On both sides of the altar figures of attendants (mobeds). 26mm, 2.86 grams. Cf.Zeno #11614 (see note below).

Extremely rare coin and famous rarity, very high quality. Ikshid Turghar is known for his relatively known cast Soghdian cash coins, but he also struck some exceedingly rare silver drachms in Samarqand. Only a few such coins are known, this one is among the best preserved ones. See Zeno coin #11614 or this link for the writeup on these coins. https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=11614
