Kingdoms in Malaysia, from ancient to modern

Malaysia was usually fractured between different powers from the earliest times. As a major producer of tin in the area, it is not surprising that most of their coinage was made of tin. Their coins were almost always cast - many pieces were based on the Chinese pattern, while many other coins of the Muslim rulers had arabic inscription and followed Islamic patters.
Numerous pre-monetary artifacts made of tin, cast in shape of animals, fish, boats and ingots, circulated as money as well until the 19th century.
