Four Chinese characters Kai Yuan Tong Bao / Chinese character Yue (for Yue prefecture in Zhejiang) up-side-down above the hole. 24.5mm, 4.52grams. Issued in 845-846 AD. Schjöth #383 var (normal Yue below the hole); Hartill 14.95 var (normal Yue below the hole).

This is a fascinating unique coin showing the character “Yue” above the hole (instead of the normal “below the hole”. This type is not listed in any references. It is very likely that this is actually an error coin, with the mother-templated imprinted the clay up-side-down by mistake. Still, a unique piece in excellent quality with beautiful patina.
