King (on the left) accepting homage / Cyrillic inscription вели/кого но/вагор/ода in four lines, divided by a large dotted cross. 16x10mm, 0.52 grams. Novgorod mint. Huletski #3004.

Lovely quality, sharp strike.

The Novgorod Republic was a medieval East Slavic state from the 12th to 15th centuries, stretching from the Baltic Sea to the northern Ural Mountains, including the city of Novgorod and the Lake Ladoga regions of modern Russia. Citizens referred to their city-state as "His Majesty (or Sovereign) Lord Novgorod the Great" (Gosudař Gospodin Velikij Novgorod), or more often as "Lord Novgorod the Great" (Gospodin Velikij Novgorod). The Republic prospered as the easternmost port of the Hanseatic League.
